Now that the holiday season is over (almost 2 weeks ago now) I’ve finally got myself back into a routine and I wanted to start off the year with a quick tip for those of you looking on how to build a list of weekday dates  for your planning purposes and to get the year started off right.  This simple trick can be used to build a quick calendar to record daily sales, production numbers, number of orders shipped etc.

You’ll notice that when using the auto fill option located in the bottom right hand corner of the current cell that you’ve highlighted, that as you drag the mouse over other cells, the dates automatically populate in chronological order.  The only problem here is that you only want to include weekdays and not all days of the week.  This post will show you how to easily and quickly only show the weekdays in the calendar that you’re building.

BONUS TIP:  CELL FORMATTING

If you want to change the direction of the text and place the cell borders on a diagonal, highlight all of your date cells, and then type Ctrl + 1.  This will bring up your format cell screen.  From there, go to the alignment tab, change the orientation to 45 degrees and click Ok.  Your cells may now still be still showing up as number signs (######).  What you want to do next is make the row bigger by selecting just under the row number (right on the line) and dragging down.  You’ll then want to highlight all columns that contain dates, and select in between any letter and double click (left click).  This will tighten all of your columns up and make your table look much more professional as shown below.

That’s it.  It’s definitely a pretty simple trick but sometimes these are the types of tips that can end up saving you tons of time.  I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any questions feel free to drop a line in the comments section below.
